How I Style Dresses In Winter

If you read my post on 'Why I Really Hate Winter' then for sure you know that I am not digging this rainy, miserable weather, I mean who does? I've decided not to dwell on this however, and start styling some of my transitional items that I have been purchasing this past month. One of these items was this gorgeous cashmere knit that I picked up from Topshop's sale. This is hardly my summer style however, its a step in the right direction.

Who said you can't wear dresses in winter? I often ruled out wearing dresses in winter before this year as I often opt for my baggy jeans and the biggest coat I can find. However, I have been loving chunky oversized knit dresses with heavy boots and even throwing some tights on if it is that extra bit nippy. This cashmere dress from Topshop falls down to my shins so there is no need to wear any tights which is nice as it shows my lower legs without me freezing to death!

Styling dresses in winter can be difficult but choosing a suitable length like this one here works to your benefit. Layering is also key, you can still wear your midi  dress and just add a long sleeve polo underneath for warmth or a knit cardigan over the top.

Another item I picked up this past month are these Dr Marten boots. I have loved these boots since last winter but didn't dare take the plunge to purchase them as I did not think I could style them in a flattering way for me. I almost thought they were too 'grunge' and would look over bearing with anything I styled them with. After weeks of snow and my Topshop 'Alfie' boots not quite cutting it for me I knew I had to take the decision to invest in some quality boots that I could rely on everyday.

I have not taken these boots off since I bought them and think they will be a perfect transitional item for spring. They work perfectly with every item I want to style them with, what more could I want?

On a side note I have new illustrations on my blog which I am over the moon about. They are done by the ever so talented Maddie Sugden who has also recently started a blog if you fancy a read click here. I also now have a 'Shop My Instagram' page where there will be direct links or similar to all my outfits, you can find that here
